Delete files Permanently Without Software
Most of the users who are using Windows knows about Windows is, that Once you delete a file or folder from your Hard drive it will not be permanently deleted or deallocated from your system. It will be settled or located one part/place of the computer unless it is overwritten by other data/files (reallocated).
So, users will use Software’s such as CCleaner or Eraser or Tuneup Utilities to delete the data permanently. Other than this Windows providing Built in Command Line Command called Cipher.
To use this command , as many Windows users Know just have to enter into ‘cmd’ or DOS Operating system.
Don’t worry , I know it is the difficult to use Command Line for normal users. But it is not that much difficult too.
For your reference just keep a safe copy as backup with you in pen drive or other flash drive.
But this command line is the safest place for using command’s unless there is a mismatch or mistake in your written command. Cipher is not the tool to just overwrite the data , by which you can encrypt data too.
To get starting with Cipher just have to go to Start, click on ‘Run’ and enter ‘cmd’ and prompt ‘OK’
You will see DOS page in which commands can be entered .
Just copy the following command in place of entering command as shown it fig:
cipher /w:driveletter:folder name
If we want to apply it on C: Drive then as follows,
Which command tells windows to start the program called Cipher. And ‘/w’ which says to remove or delete unused disk space from specified drive mentioned, and also ‘C’ this tells Windows which drive to take action of removing the unused space of it.
If You want to check with some other drives such as D or E just replace drive letter with ‘C’ as D or E
But at many cases ‘C’ is the Best Choice since it has maximum data unused.
